WHAT IS SENTIMENT ANALYSIS?

Sentiment Analysis is an area of Natural Language Processing (NLP) where we gather texts related to something like a brand, product, service, event, person, idea, etc. and then determine whether the overall attitude towards that subject is positive, negative, mixed or neutral.

WHAT SENTIMENTS MEAN?

Customers' emotions/attitudes can be:

  • Positive – wow, way beyond what I expected
  • Neutral – Keep it up
  • Negative – Hmm, not great
  • Mixed – in two minds about it

Texts gathered can in the form of web pages, blogs, articles, reviews, news, social media posts, the top x search results from a search query, etc.

Texts gathered are then analyzed to determine the overall attitude expressed in the text. The Sentiment represented by numerical score and magnitude values.

Range thresholds are set, tested, and verified iteratively determine the best ranges to classify Sentiment as Positive, Negative, Mixed, or Neutral.
